 Food Preferences

The prairie dog has lots of food choices to choose from. they feed on plants, flowering plants, and grasses high in moisture content and nutrtion to meet their needs.

Predators

The Black tailed Prairie Dog has many Predators. Such as: The Black footed Ferret, eagles, hawks, falcons, snakes, badgers, coyotes, and bobcats.

Population Density

About the time when Lewis and Clark were here, there once was 400,000,000 prairie dogs roaming the states and countries. But as time went on, the population got small. So small that the prairie dog is on the extinction list. The aproximate total of prairie dogs alive today is 10-20 million on earth.

Interactive Species

Most of the species that interact within a prairie dogs habitat, are the same ones that are also predators to the prairie dog. Species like:The black footed ferret, eagles, hawks, falcons, snakes, badgers, coyotes, bobcats, and burrowing owls.

Disease

There are two reasons why the prairie dogs are becoming extinct. One because there is a disease that's killing then called Sylvatic Plague. This diseas is caused by bacterium transmitted fleas which get the disease for previous animals they have bitten before. Second because farmers and hunters keep killing them because of what they do to the soil. But it it said to be known that a human can get Sylivatic Plague if they touch, skin, or eat a prairie dog that is infected with the disease. It is also curable for humans because we have antibiotics to fight the Plauge. But sadly for the prairie dog, they have no medicen to cure what they have, so after two days of being infected, they soon die.
